Jordie Winter Term Week 9 PPJ

Hours Breakdown:

Meetings:

• Digm Meeting (1 hr)

We had a meeting which in summary was: Get your stuff done so you’re 100% free this weekend in case we need you all weekend. We also talked about going to conferences and conventions and our marketing strategy. Which sums up was; we need to do it. Since we didn’t have enough time to work on it in that short hour so it was a “ok by this time we’ll work on it”

• Wagner Meeting (1 hr)

We made our plans with him for going forward and double checked our bases on what we wanted going forward. Everything seems rather smooth. It’s pretty strange to be at a good point for once.

• Saturday Meeting (9.5 hrs)

So this was just work your butt off until we finished. So it was almost 10 hours of almost nonstop work- we only broke for Pizza (P-dubs) which was really delicious. It was a second wind we needed to get everything done.

• Sunday Meeting (4.5 hrs)

     We got together as a team to hit the small things left over from Sunday with the programmers and worked on the presentation making it look and function as best as possible. Hopefully we will have a great presentation on Tuesday!

Work:

I did a LOT of work and hopefully I wrote everything down that I did.  >>;

• I worked on the marketing presentation for Zach, which ended up being what we based our final presentation for this term on! (I’m WAY too psyched about it) (2 hrs)

Finished Snake Enemy with Two animations

• First thing I did on saturday was work on the snake enemy which is now done and is in the game. With feedback from the group I got nice colors and honestly I’m WAY too happy with my silly little snake guy. \ o / I ended up working on it 1.5 hours or so.

• I worked on the game credits first round- which was like ‘oh man u worked on this all term what should we call your title?’ or if I didn’t ask them I just put it together. It was kinda fun tbh. And I ended up doing a bit of research about job titles for it.

• I created the “how to” images. While it doesn’t SUPER fit our game we needed something quickly that illustrated the point. We’ll end up doing the how to with more in game screenshots for polish.

• My fellow teammates ended up doing the merchant REALLY well so I only had to do minor clean up and exportation. It was really exciting to just have things done quickly. I spent about 3 hours on that.

• I worked on the main GUI for a bit but it was mostly updating.

• I ended up working on the death animations for all of the characters and had to hand animate the eye closing and everything. But it was pretty fun- I really do like animating.

• I quickly threw together a Merchant icon for our character selection screen until we have something else for it. I also put in the merchant into our marketing materials.

• On Sunday I created a quick trophy icon- which I don’t like but it’s going to be small so hopefully looks better that way. I might be too critical of it though.

• I slapped together a quick wave system for Resh to use for our boat level and honestly looks pretty good in motion.

• I worked on the character slide and the Ivan logo- and putting together our character logos. I will edit the Ivan logo later because we’re in discussion with the name at the moment. I was working on the presentation for 4.5 hours and honestly there might be more I’m missing.

• I took the presentation into powerpoint to do the final animations and overall improve the presentation however I could by myself with the final round of checking everything. (1 hrs)

Negatives:

• Nothing WE HIT OUR BETA!!! And that’s SUPER GREAT. I’m so relieved.

Snake Final Colors

• Digm Meeting (1 hr)

I was completely exhausted from having zero hours of sleep so I don’t particularly reme,ber this meeting except that I needed to continue working on the posters

• Wagner Meeting (1 hr)

Talked about what was in the game and new maps- Wagner seemed pretty happy with us!

• Saturday Meeting

I technically did not attend- as I physically was in New Jersey helping out with a film shoot. But I still worked on the new GUI and handed it off. CS side told us not to bother with the Mummy yet so that’s a this week thing instead.

Main Server side GUI

• So I edited together and made our posters as best as I could. I barely turned them into the print shop and was literally unable to give Rob the PDF since I was in a car for three hours booking it to Jersey– so that was late. (14 hrs)

• On Saturday I worked on our Main GUI with Resh and from what I understand it’s in the game now ; w ;  (3.5 hrs)

Snake Enemy- Need another hour or so to Color properly

• I ended up getting sick from some… not so fresh food on Monday that I’d left in the fridge for the weekend thinking it would be fine when I got back. Should have realized it tasted funny… so I used what little time I wasn’t feeling disgusted to work on the snake enemy I started coloring it only to realize it looked stupid. : / (1.5 hrs)

Positives:

• Stuff got done but once again doesn’t FEEL like enough.

Negatives:

• Was in New Jersey Friday -> Sunday and thus didn’t get as much work done as I wanted… again. I feel pretty crappy about it. I’m hoping I can spend the rest of my time this week crunching on beta. >~>

• Posters not completely done the way I wanted, missed two of them in time for the deadline and thus didn’t turn them in and I’ll have to work on it more eventually… and I’m just still very frustrated with myself. I’m going as hard as I can on this stuff and it’s not good enough to my standards.

• It feels a little bit like sinking that much time into the posters was a bad idea but honestly I feel like the deadline was just at a really bad place considering what we needed to do for our production this week and last week.

Jordie Winter Term Week 7 PPJ

tldr; I was STILL sick this week.

Hours Breakdown:

Meetings:

• Digm Meeting (1 hr)

We discussed some housekeeping stuff, mostly what the CS Side said they’d have within the next two weeks and what we’d need to get to them by then. We also talked about some feedback Rob gave us and implemented slack and daily check ins. Everyone was tasked with brainstorming map themes.

• Wagner Meeting (1 hr)

While the Meeting did not have Wagner it did have the rest of us. We decided on new map themes and where we’d be going on that front for the next week.

• Saturday Meeting

I technically did not attend- as I physically couldn’t make it but I was kept up on the progress. Long story short we decided to throw everything at the wall and get two maps done and update our first map and see where we end up. If it doesn’t work we scrap it no harm done. Of course we’re going to rock it so nbd.

Work:

• Being sick I had a lot of mindless down time- 1 of which I used to start on the solution to one of our problems: No in game fonts. So I took bits of time between sleeping to make a list of fonts. Of course I had to restart my computer and lost them… so I made a list again but it went from 30 fonts to 60. I’m planning to narrow it down before letting the team know what’s up (1.5 hrs)

• On Saturday I was mostly working on getting the animation correct (roughed in) for our snake enemy. I started doing the lineart for it but ended up with more cold symptoms meaning I didn’t super function well. (2 hrs)

• On Sunday I ended up finally getting the dimensions for our posters or rather the dimensions of our board and thus did all of the math calculations to figure out what our stuff would need to be. And let me tell you it’s HUGE. So I spent time figuring all that out. (1.5 hrs)

• Work on the posters alone… staggering. Since I was sick pretty much the entire week I didn’t have much time to do the final work on those. So it was done, at this point, mostly in two sittings. Of course 4.5 hours was just dedicated to getting the stupid tablet drivers to work and my computer was having so many technical issues I wanted to chuck it out a window. (9 hrs)

• Posters not completely done and I’ll have to work on it Wednesday and I’m very frustrated with myself.

Jordie Winter Term Week 6 PPJ

tldr; I was sick pretty much sick the entire week.

• Digm Meeting (1 hr)

We went over our giant list of things that needed to get done and work was distributed

• Wagner Meeting

I missed this meeting due to my alarm not going off… or I probably slept through it with my stuffed up head cold.

 

• Saturday Meeting

I missed this one as well but I had another obligation- I cleared it before hand and I ended up helping someone move. In like… 10 degree weather with 26 mph wind, and snow, and heavy furniture. Pretty sure this made my cold so much worse it was such a bad idea.

Work:

•I worked on our display design posters making sketches as well as a dozen designs for our possible display layout. We’re picking this one for the time being until everything is more settled as a group (6 hrs)

Jordie Winter Term Week 5 PPJ

This is the week of GDC mayhem and tomfoolery.

Hours Breakdown:

Meetings:

• Digm Meeting (1 hr)

We were practicing for the GDC presentation as well as figuring out what to say and what else we might need to improve on it.

• Wagner Meeting (1 hr)

This was our first run of the presentation for an audience. It went well and then we went straight into practicing.

• Presentation Practice for GDC (2 hrs)

After the meeting with Wagner we went to correct a few things that he suggested we fix and practiced our presentation until it was time for the GDC competition.

• GDC (2 hrs)

We presented our game in hopes to get sent to GDC this year to represent Drexel. We didn’t win but it was a good motivation to come together as a team.

• Saturday Meeting (2 hrs)

Two of our five members couldn’t make it and we ended up tossing around names for our characters and backstories instead (it was a lesser thing to do but we didn’t have the full team to make super important discussions happen)

Work:

• I finished updating our sprites to what I could with the time remaining until GDC so we would have a stable build to use for the presentation (6.5 hrs)

• I worked with Resh on our presentation- making more marketing materials which would help us moving forward (4 hrs)

• Worked on the Merchant lineart and sent it off. (3 hrs)

• Updated our logo for our game, finally had time to clean it up as we have our posters that are due on the 12th. (2.5 hrs)

-I updated things that I’ve been meaning to update- I posted to our social Media accounts, finally creating content.

-I got WAY more work done overall- more than made up for not doing much last week.

-Our Saturday meeting was a bust and we have a lot we need to get done

Jordie Winter Term Week 4 PPJ

Note: We didn’t meet with Wagner this week

Hours Breakdown:

Meetings:

• Digm Meeting – (1 hr)

We ended up discussing where we are, where we’re going- what’s getting done for GDC as well our presentation for the next week and going over that.

• Work Meeting with Digm Side (2 hrs)

Digm side met on Saturday for a work session where we could check in and know what’s up. We also touched on our presentation as well.

• Went to Philly Game forge for Dev Night (2.5 hrs)

Got some play-testing data and met with other game developers. It was pretty cool.

Work:

• Worked on the scientist lineart and sent it off. Also decided on colors. Was pretty distracted and it took longer than I intended. (3 hrs)

SCI

• Worked with Resh to record game footage for our presentation ( 3.5 hrs)

Total hours: 12 hrs

 

Positive:

-We now have three characters done and in spine. Final stages to put in game.

Negative:

-I didn’t do much for this week. I’ve been wanting to do more but it’s not anything I can help- I’ve been prioritizing senior project for the last four weeks compared to everything I’ve been doing. It’s bitten me in the butt and now I have to prioritize everything else this week. Need to regain my own workload balance.

 

Jordie Winter Term Week 3 PPJ

Meetings:

• Digm Meeting – (1 hr)

Decided on our tasks moving forward pending on how the Wagner meeting went and how we were going on getting the Archelogist in the game.

• Work Meeting with Digm Side (3.5 hrs)

I completed a lot of items in our jam session and learned how to put the assets into unity (well replace the assets in perforce which does the same thing because referencing)

Work:

• Made various item sprites; health heart, arrow trap, spike trap, floor switches (4 hrs)

• Fixed the back rig (that I had left over from last week) (1 hr)

• I reanimated and reorganized the rig once I had all of the archeologist parts (5.5 hrs)

Positive:

-Missed the Wagner meeting however I was able to get the information I needed from my team mates

– I had the scientist linearting on my plate and it was the one task I did not get finished this week. It will get done within the next two days; I had a lot due this week in other classes. I feel like I didn’t get nearly enough done. 

Jordie Winter Term Week 2 PPJ

 

Hours Breakdown:

Meetings:

• Friday Meeting With Wagner (1 hr)

Tasked with Finishing a character and having them IN game COMPLETE by friday

• Digm Meeting – (1 hr)

Decided on design for gangster and divided up work between Me, Pat, and Jimmy. We discussed finishing the Archeologist, as it turns out it was unfinished last term. Also I did not finish implementing changes on the back rig.

•Work Meeting with Digm Side (2.5 hrs)

Ended up doing most of the lineart for the gangster on that time, and I learned how the sprite’s color changing will be implemented in unity

Work:

• I completely finished the back, front, and side of the Archelogist for our robust rig, however it took longer than I anticipated as there were a many tiny pieces I didn’t count on taking so long. (4.5 hrs)

• Linearted the Gangster so Jimmy could make the flat and chop it up into pieces for Pat to put into spine. This took more time than it should have as I was rather distracted during the process. (3 hrs)

• Created a master Animation list for Resh so the coding bit of how our sprites will function will go easier. (.5 hrs)

• Created all Social Media Accounts and updated artwork for already created accounts (3 hrs)

• Almost Fixed the back rig in spine, will finish tomorrow (.5 hrs)

Positive:

-Finally finished the archeologist and we have the lineart for the gangster done. We should be going into rough concepting and production for the next character fine.

-Hoping the document I created in order for the other people in the pipeline to complete and understand their jobs was enough.

-I am mostly back on track to this week despite the setback of Sunday

Negative:

-I got REALLY sick on Sunday was completely AWOL. I ended up giving Jimmy the Lineart for the gangster on Monday, as well as the complete Archelogist. I should have given it to him on Saturday, however Saturday I realized what we currently had for set up to change colors on our characters would not be working as is and wanted to find a solution before finishing characters.

-Slightly worried about color changing for the characters, but that should be more of a minor concern

Jordie Winter Term Week 1 PPJ

This is also counting some of the stuff I’ve done over break but the hours on that were more sketchy than I’d like as I didn’t record any of them well.

• Friday Meeting- was  going to be with wagner but things happened- (.5 hrs)

• Digm Meeting – (1.5 hrs)

Work:

•Went through our website and made all of our tagging system and such somewhat consistent (1.5 hrs)

• Concepted and researched methods of better design for our characters in terms of style. (10 hrs)

Positive:

-We had a team meeting to decide where we’re going this term and we’ll figure out the pipeline for creating characters this week

– The rigging system I created last term will be completely usable and ready to go for this term, all the prep was completely worth it to speed our process along now.

 

Negative:

-Our team meetings are at the end of the week so our production schedule doesn’t completely line up with the PPJ posting times

Jordie PPJ Week 11

The end of the term. This week we decided as a team the next direction we’re going which means the work I was previously doing was not longer necessary so I stopped the meaningless work of finishing up the archeologist since the art assets were being scrapped anyhow.

Hours Breakdown:

Meetings:

• Wagner meeting (prior to presentations) – (1 hr)

• I missed the digm meeting, caught up later

• Team meeting (2 hrs)

• Presentation reworking (5 hrs)

Work:

•Created a five page document outlining my approach to sprite creation from the start with a flat character image all the way to spine for skinning, animating, and back into photoshop for final touches and optimization. (4 hrs)

Total hours: 12 hrs

Positive:

 

-We fixed our presentation from what we presented to Wagner on Monday; while we stumbled slightly during our presentation it was overall successful. The questions thrown at us were questions we had the answers to but in the moment failed to explain.

-We have a giant plan of what we’re doing next term, over break, and how we’re going to move forward! Very positive.

-Had an entire team meeting where we got major design decisions for next term knocked out. Everyone seems excited to work on our game again.

-The entire team played a version of mafia at the end of our meeting which was really fun

– My job as been officially documented (by me) and all of the repetitive tasks I’ve been doing that anyone can do are now being passed to other people. It leaves me with more time to focus on what I can do for the team best.

-Overall while the term had ups and downs we have systems in place to move forward very quickly. Everyone’s on the same page and we are better equipped to move forward and create a FANTASTIC game!

-Next term my workload has diminished considerably freeing me up to work on senior project. (Supposedly but now is the time to be more positive)

-I have various plans on how to move forward with marketing.

Negative:

-Little nervous being apart from the whole team by the entire country, and three timezones. (timezones suck so much) while reconcepting and I am nervous I’ll fall off the map.
